Lewisham Arthouse
Artist-led Co-operative in South-East London
Lewisham Arthouse (LAH) is a not-for-profit artist-led co-operative, based in a Grade 2 listed building in Deptford. Founded in 1992 it provides 40 artist studios with associated public gallery and workshop programmes. Lewisham Arthouse provides subsidised workspace, event and exhibition facilities to the general public. We offer practical support for a range of different cultural and community activities. Our offering ranges from art exhibitions, classes and workshops to experimental music performances. Lewisham Arthouse also maintains open access to specialist facilities. These include an analogue photography darkroom and a pottery kiln.
Gallery
The Project Space offers affordable exhibition opportunities for emerging artists, community groups, and those excluded from traditional galleries. We aim to foster a vibrant programme that invites the local community to engage with contemporary art in an informal, welcoming setting. Alongside hire shows, we also curate exhibitions and events that support diverse voices and contribute to a richer, more inclusive cultural landscape.
Workshop
Learning is at the heart of Lewisham Arthouse. Since 1992, our programme has included onsite and offsite work with schools, colleges, housing associations, and festivals. We offer affordable classes in ceramics, weaving, printmaking, music, and life drawing, with access to specialist darkroom, ceramic, and rehearsal facilities. Artist-led talks, creative workshops, and our Graduate Residency further support emerging artists through workspace, mentoring, and public engagement.
Studios
Lewisham Arthouse exists to support practising artists and makers by providing affordable studio space within a cooperative setting. Rent is subsidised through a Work Hours scheme, where members volunteer five hours monthly toward running and developing the organisation. This includes curating, maintenance, fundraising, and more. Members also take part in collective decision-making and help shape our artist-led programmes.
