Lewisham Arthouse (LAH) is a not-for-profit artist-led co-operative, based in a Grade 2 listed building in Deptford. Founded in 1992 it provides 40 artist studios with associated public gallery and workshop programmes. Lewisham Arthouse provides subsidised workspace, event and exhibition facilities to the general public. We offer practical support for a range of different cultural and community activities. Our offering ranges from art exhibitions, classes and workshops to experimental music performances. Lewisham Arthouse also maintains open access to specialist facilities. These include an analogue photography darkroom and a pottery kiln.

The Project Space is run with the aim of providing affordable exhibition space and a platform for emerging artists, community groups and those who have been unable to find support/space through traditional gallery routes. In doing this we hope to provide a vibrant program of exhibitions for our local community, creating an opportunity for people to enjoy, discuss and engage with contemporary art in an informal and accessible setting. Workshop
Learning is at the heart of Lewisham Arthouse. Since 1992, our Learning programme has contained onsite and offsite elements. These include partnerships with local schools, colleges, housing associations, local festivals and work-placement schemes.

Other events and news
The main objective of Lewisham Arthouse is to support practising artists and makers to work. Artists pay rent for their studio, but rent is subsidised through the cooperative’s Work Hours scheme to ensure it remains affordable. We use the term ‘member’ because Lewisham Arthouse is more than just about individual studio spaces. Lewisham Arthouse is about artists undertaking the collective decision-making, day to day running and development together.
