36 Hours

A community art exhibition where we exhibit you! Bring your artwork 29th-31st May and we’ll put it on display and write a caption with you. No theme, no requirements, so long as it fits through the door. All ages and levels are welcome. Works will be shown until 6th June, and can be collected on the 8th and 9th. On the 28th May we will also be hosting a 1-day pop-up exhibition with Auto Amor, an open call art programme!

In 1978, American curator and gallerist Walter Hopps opened 5 floors of blank walls to the city, inviting thousands of artists he believed were hiding there to come and hang their work in any and all parts of the gallery over 36 hours. It was fully inclusive – the only requirement was that the art had to fit through the door. Nearly 50 years later, we’re launching it in London. We believe that anyone can be an artist and deserves to have their art shown. This project will provide this opportunity to anyone who comes, and give them the power to not only control the way it is displayed, but will also provide support on how to install their work, write interpretation, and more. Each work that comes through the door will be treated with equal care and passion.

27th May 6pm -8:30pm- Sediment Collective x 36 Hours

An evening of art in all its forms in Lewisham Arthouse by Sediment Collective, an artist run curatorial collective. What will this collective, committed to celebrating the texture and roughness of art in all its forms, decide to create in a completely blank space?

28th May - Auto Amor x 36 Hours pop up

A one day art swap and sell with Auto Amor, an open call exhibition programme which aims to level the playing field for artists. Each artwork is made on the back of a 24 x 30cm boards and selected by 36 hours.

29-31 May 11am-4pm - Open Walls
