SWEEP is a show dedicated to Jess's beloved childhood toy. Through observational paintings and drawings, Jess probes the physical interdependence of puppet and puppeteer.

Their relationship resists the neat separation between person and possession. Sweep is not simply something Jess owns - he occupies a space somewhere between character, companion, alter ego and confidant.

Focussing on the hand that touches, holds and gives life and the repeated gestures through which one body becomes entangled with another, this series explores how their animation of each other becomes its own language
