Glitch the Gaze: The Feminist Recode

13th January – 19th January

Private view: Monday 12th January 6-9 PM

Glitch the Gaze: The Feminist Recode features artists Amy Kaluzhny, Joke Amusan, Kelis Graham, and Zabe.

Female self-perception has historically been communicated through men, translated from women’s own imagery into language shaped by male interpretation. This has produced a self-image that lacks ownership and rests on questionable authority. The continued reliance on phallocentric thinkers such as Freud, Lacan, and Aristotle to explain female lived experience further silences women, idealising them according to male desire.

Understanding the modern female mind requires engaging with contemporary female thinkers. In Glitch Feminism, Legacy Russell explores the fluidity of identity enabled by digital space, where selfhood is shaped by social codes, visibility, and performance. She argues that both identity and the codes one performs determine how individuals are treated.

This exhibition challenges entrenched societal perceptions and redefines what it means to be a young woman. Through abstract and concrete visual language, the artists embody womanhood as both vessel and experience, expressing its beauty and its hardships.
