‘Poison On The Tree Stump: Do Not Lick!’ is Hazel Blair’s first solo exhibition, showcasing paintings created during the Lewisham Art House Graduate Award residency in 2023.

Over the course of the year Blair has been exploring dream-like narratives that express an intimate point of view and connectedness to her surroundings. This exploration of her personal histories, memory and nostalgia becomes a form of mythology – a speculative and imaginative space that creates fruitful gaps in these narratives that weave romance and dreaming with harsher realities of lived experience.

Hazel Blair is a Zambian and British multi-disciplinary emerging artist who was raised in the Middle East and is currently based in London. Working within the realms of painting, film, and performance. Blair’s work explores the intersections of Identity and cultural/historical narratives. As a way of seeking the nuances and dimensions to the interior lives of black women. She graduated from her BA Fine Art at Goldsmiths in 2021 and is a member of ‘FloorFive’ collective.
